Open Championship 1934
Henry Cotton broke through.
At last British golf had a home grown hero to cheer. His total of 283 equalled the championship record set by Gene Saracen two years earlier at Prince's, and included a new low score for the Open, a second round of 65.
Cotton was playing with a Dunlop ball, and in recognition of this score Dunlop renamed their product 'Dunlop 65', a brand name still in use today.
