Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich
(strokeplay also at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club)
Saturday 14th June - Saturday 21st June, 2025
The Amateur Championship is one of the biggest and most prestigious amateur championships in the world.
The 2025 Amateur Championship will be held at Royal St George's from 14th to 21st June.
The first Amateur was held at Hoylake in 1885 where 44 players from 12 clubs competed. Since that time, some of golf’s greatest names have triumphed, including Bobby Jones, Sergio Garcia and José María Olazábal. Contested by 288 players from around the World participating in a stroke play qualifying competition with the qualifiers participating in a match play knockout, the winner secures exemptions into The Open, the US Open, and by tradition, an invitation to play in the Masters.
This year, Royal St George's will host The Amateur for the fifteenth time in its history, the last time coming in 2017 when England's Harry Ellis beat Dylan Perry on the 38th Hole.
Although not on the scale of the Open, its profile and scale have increased significantly in recent years. It attracts a number of spectators for whom the event is a great experience; it is also available to viewers across the World
